In 1981, a group of Portuguese-American educators recognized that there was a need to create an organization in which they could voice their concerns about mutual education problems and share their academic successes with colleagues and other professionals. It soon became clear that the new organization also needed to serve as a forum to bring important information to the large Portuguese-speaking community in New Jersey
